POP studio / by Plenty of Petals

Last September I  stumbled into a studio space in North Park. The space was in really rough shape but the location, and overall layout was ideal. It was tucked away in the back on Ray Street, had a fun roll up door, with french doors behind it, beautiful old windows that led in a ton of natural light, and a large room in the back that we can make into a flower cooler.

The building is over a hundred years old (exaggerating a little here, but it’s pretty old) and has had many lives. It was a pillow manufacturing place, a tattoo shop, and a cross-fit gym. It was covered in years of grime and terrible old paint.

Throughout the winter we completely renovated and we cleaned it out, built a flower cooler, a kitchenette, did flooring, and painted it floor to ceiling white. In December we officially moved in and I couldn’t be happier! It’s so fitting for us and has been so fun working in such a beautiful space. We will hosting lots of fun events, workshops and shoots in here and we cannot wait. If you’re in town, stop by and say hello!

All photos above are by Skylar from Pura Soul Photo who recently came by the space to hang out for the day.

I really enjoyed making these pretty died wreaths this season. I’ve been gathering a little collection of dried product all year and it was so fun to put it to good use. Best part is – they will look pretty all year long. Tied them all with bundles of Bellame Ribbon and Shauntelle from Sposto Photo came by the studio to capture these beauties.

  • Alison Lewis

Hi, my name is Alison Lewis and I am currently studying at The University of Oregon. I am only 2 years in with 2 years left to go and I am not happy. I know you guys have no reason to care about this and may not even read it, but I figured I should at least shoot my shot.
Anyways my plan since the beginning of college was to get a degree to please my family and then actually start the life I want which would include flower design. My big picture dream is to be a florist who design the arrangements at weddings and galas, but I need experience and I just don’t think I can wait two years before I start actually working toward my future. All I am looking for is an internship where I can learn the ropes of what it really takes to work with flowers in hopes that this experience will help me get a paid job in the future. If not I am considering going to floral design school, but regulated classes is the exact thing I am trying to get away from.
Currently I am in Spokane, WA for the summer but I am willing to relocate and do what ever it takes to make this happen. Please let me know. Thank you for your time.ReplyCancel

One of my favorite trips from this year was to the iris and peony farms in Oregon with Janelle from Lavenders Flowers. She goes on an annual flower mission trip every year and I was so happy I could join her this year! I mean, look at the beautiful iris garden at Schreiner’s Iris Gardens nursery. They do such a beautiful job weaving other floral varieties into the landscape – lupine, peonies, clematis. The white viburnum we were so excited to take portraits in front of was just in the parking lot – insane! All the beautiful film photos are by Janelle.
